The string quartet Quartetto Appassionata will perform at the United Presbyterian Church in Cortland on December 13, 2011 at 8pm. Music will include works by Mozart and Dvorak. The members of the quartet are students or recent graduates of the Eastman School of Music. Admission is free.

The string quartet Quartetto Appassionata will perform at 8 pm on Tuesday December 13, 2011 in the United Presbyterian Church, 25 Church St. in Cortland. Music will include works by Mozart and Dvorak. The members of the quartet are students or recent graduates of the Eastman School of Music. Admission is free.
Quartetto Appassionata includes Markiyan Melnychenko and Timmothy Baker (violins), Dana Huyge (viola) and Hilary Glen (cello). All students or recent graduates from the Eastman School of Music, the group was formed in June 2010 in order to read chamber music and bring the joy of music to others. The quartet has played numerous engagements around Central New York, including events for the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, and Dr. David Fettler, former Assistant Conductor to Leopold Stokowski. The planned program for the Tuesday evening concert includes: the quartet in D-major K. 575 by Mozart and string quartet Op.96 'American' by Antonin Dvorak.
Markiyan Melnychenko (first violin) studied at the Australian National Academy of Music from 2006-2008 under Alice Waten and William Hennessy. From 2008 until present, Markiyan has served as a concertmaster of the Eastman School Symphony Orchestra and the Eastman Philharmonia. In 2010 he was selected to represent the Eastman School of Music at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC for it's Conservatory Project program. In 2011 he won 2nd prize at the Eastman Concerto Competition and was awarded Eastman's “Performer's Certificate” in the same year. He is active as a soloist, performing in cities all over Australia, and was recently a semi-finalist in the 2009 10th Pablo de Sarasate International Violin Competition.
Timmothy Baker (violin) graduated from the University of South Carolina in August of 2004 with a BM in Violin Performance, and the Eastman School of Music in May of 2008 with a Masters in Violin Performance and Literature. He has held positions as Assistant Concertmaster of the University of South Carolina Symphony and Chamber Orchestras for three consecutive years, and Assistant Principal Second Violin of the South Carolina Philharmonic for two years. In addition, Timmothy enjoys composing and has had several works for String Orchestra premiered by groups in South Carolina. He was a prizewinner in the South Carolina Young Artist Scholarship Competition, helping finance his undergraduate education.
Dana Huyge (viola) received his Master's degree from the Eastman School of Music in the spring of 2011. He is currently an active performer as violist, violinist, and singer with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, the Finger Lakes Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Southern Finger Lakes, the Greece Symphony Orchestra, the University of Rochester YellowJackets, as well as chamber and solo appearances in the Central New York area. He has also served as Principal Violist of the Eastman Philharmonia, and the Penfield Symphony Orchestra.
Hilary Glen (cello) completed her BM at the Indiana University, Jacobs School of music, where she studied under the renowned performer and teacher, Janos Starker. She earned her MM and is currently working on her DMA, studying under Alan Harris at the Eastman School of Music. She has performed as principal of the Aspen Concert Orchestra and Eastman Philharmonia, performs with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra and was recently awarded a full-time position with the New World Symphony of Miami, Florida. Currently, Ms. Glen teaches at the Hochstein School of Music and Dance as well as the Eastman School of Music.
